Mission Accomplished: Report from Fort Lewis Team
THANK YOU to...Hunter Haugen and Andie Haugen, Brenda Lauterback, Cal Watson, Josh Hochstettler, and Lee and Louise Bennett.
Here is a note from Paul and Beryl Metko:
God is so incredible! He provides beyond our desires. As your team finished the full day's work at Fellowship House--Ron Hand, our ministry director, said with bright eyes and a smile: 'They far exceeded my expectations for the day!' What a day of accomplishment, encouragement, and renewal. Thank you for your ministry to and with the soldiers and our staff. We appreciated the wonderful spirit that sweetened the entire day--an evidence of God's overflowing love.
Personally, Beryl and I express our deep gratitude the way you continue to stand with us in our expanding ministries to our armed forces that we oversee in Alaska, Arizona, California, Hawaii, Idaho, and Washington states.
Gratefully yours, Paul and Beryl

Reavely Family Update

To summarize: they've branded calves and spent time with family in Montana. From there they saw the world's largest pheasant and buffalo in the Dakotas. Then on to Independance, Missouri--the start of the Oregon Trail, and continuing through the St. Louis Arch. The girls seemed to enjoy the visit to Laura Ingalls Wilder's early homestead. Then on to Lincoln's Kentucky birthplace and Louisville. If you know someone who would like to receive a printed copy of Pastor Scott's family travel blog, please call Julia at the church office: 503-656-8600.

High School Beach Bash
Our trip to the beach was not without complications. Dave's van decided to get a flat tire which left us temporarily with only 3 vehicles.
This ended Caitlin, Courtney and Tessa in the back of a State Trooper's car. All in all, the flat was a minor setback, for which we were very thankful.
At camp, we ate lunch, pitched our tents and got ready for the beach!
We had a great time at the beach! Some swam in the near freezing ocean, others played in the sand, others threw Frisbees and footballs, and still others soaked in the sun.
We returned to our campsite to swim in the indoor pool and to hang around the campfire where we made and devoured s'mores. Our campfire time ended when the rain came and our neighbors told us to SHUSH! Most tents fared well in the rain, though few had a cold damp night :(
Still, it did not keep us from worshipping our great God for the indescribable gift of His Son the next morning on the beach! We heard from John 17:17-19, being challenged to be set apart from the world for the purpose of being sent into the world because of the sacrifice of Jesus. Afterwards, we grabbed lunch and made the trip home.
Thanks for your prayers. Please continue to pray for and support the high school ministry of NLC.

Tim Watt Update

The two years at
Some have asked about Tim's new job. He will be a team leader for a company that seeks get young families into their first house. He will have a lot of opportunity to make disciples of young men in this new role. I encourage you as a church to be praying for Tim and the whole Watt family as they launch out into this new adventure.
Others have asked about what is next for worship leading at New Life Robinwood. Well, the Lord provided for our need even before we knew we had a need. Ron and Peggy Pricer have been attending New Life Robinwood since the spring. Ron happens to be a talented and experienced worship leader. Ron has agreed to serve in as our interim worship leader at least through the fall.
Times of change can be challenging, but I trust that God knows what He is doing and has a plan to bless the Watt family and New Life Robinwood. Thanks for your prayers in that regard!

Packer on Fellowship
In preparation for the following two Sunday's sermons (Aug. 19th and 26th), I've been reading up on the concepts of Christian community and fellowship. The following quote from J.I. Packer is perhaps the best two paragraph, devotional definition out of everything I've seen.
J.I. Packer (God’s Words: Studies in Key Bible Themes, pg. 193)
Christian fellowship is two-dimensional; it is first vertical and then horizontal. The horizontal place of fellowship…presupposes the vertical for its very existence. The vertical dimension of fellowship was described by John when he wrote: ‘our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son Jesus Christ’ (1 Jn. 1:3). This fellowship is what makes a Christian; indeed, John’s words afford a precise definition of a Christian. The man who is not in fellowship with the Father and the Son, however upright and pious he may be, is no Christian at all. The horizontal dimension of fellowship is the habitual sharing, the constant giving to and receiving from each other, which is the true and authentic pattern of life for the people of God.
Fellowship with God, then, is the source from which fellowship among Christians springs; and fellowship with God is the end to which Christian fellowship is a means. We should not, therefore, think of our fellowship with other Christians as a spiritual luxury, an optional addition to the exercise of private devotion. We should recognize rather than such fellowship is a spiritual necessity; for God has made us in such a way that our fellowship with himself is fed by our fellowship with fellow-Christians, and requires to be so fed constantly for its own deepening and enrichment.

Pray for National Night Out!

Please pray that many of our neighbors would come to the party and that we would make good connections with them. Pray for all of the details of the party to come together. Pray that some who come to the party would come to church for the first time at our outdoor service on the 12th.
