New Life Ladies Garden Tour

Yesterday 31 women from New Life Church toured three beautiful gardens. Sally Polley , Paulette and Linda Rodenbaugh, and Agnes Spidal put their gardens on display. Each garden had its unique personality. "You can learn a lot about a person by looking at a person's garden," said the organizer of the event, Gay Haugen. She in turn hosted a luncheon at the end of the morning. Five young ladies (the four pictured below plus Andie Haugen) served the meal. The event was a great opportunity for women to connect and enjoy a touch of creativity.

A Prayer for Today

A Disciple's Renewal

O My Saviour,
help me.

I am so slow to learn, so prone to forget, so weak to climb;
I am in the foothills when I should be in the heights;
I am pained by my graceless heart,
my prayerless days,
my poverty of love,
my sloth in the heavenly race,
my sullied conscience,
my wasted hours,
my unspent opportunities.

I am blind while light shines around me:
take the scales from my eyes,
grind to dust the evil heart of unbelief.

Make it my cheifest joy to study thee,
meditate on thee,
gaze on thee,
sit like Mary at thy feet,
lean like John on thy breast,
appeal like Peter to thy love,
count like Paul all things dung.
Give me increase and progress in grace so that there may be;
more decision in my character,
more vigour in my purposes,
more ELEVATION in my life,
more fervour in my devotion,
more constancy in my zeal.

As I have a position in the world,
keep me from making the world my position;
May I never seek in the creature what can be found only in the creator;
Let not faith cease from seeking thee until it vanishes into sight.

Ride forth in me, thou king of kings and lord of lords,
that I may live victoriously,
and in victory attain my end.

A Cup of Cold Water

Today another simple, yet dramatic improvement took place at New Life Church Riverfalls. Gib, Ralph and Mark spent their morning connecting the drinking fountains to power so you could have cold water when you come to church! You guys are fantastic! Thank you.

Matthew 10:42 If anyone gives even a cup of cold water to one of these little ones because he is my disciple, I tell you the truth, he will certainly not lose his reward.

Young Adult/College Group

Just to remind you tomorrow night we are meeting same place same time! 7pm @ Pastor Scott's house. Hopefully you can all make it! Kati is making some more fabulous treats and we are doing part 2 of question answering with Pastor Scott.

Last week we talked about spiritual gifts and we were encouraged to reflect on what our own gift was and to try and use it this week. Also we were to help others discover what their gift is. We played four on a couch and discovered that boys like to cheat! It was lots of fun, hopefully more can make it tomorrow...

Hopefully you all are doing well and having a great summer!

See you tomorrow night,

Anna

New Life Church Service at the Fair

The heavens praise your wonders, O LORD, your faithfulness too, in the assembly of the holy ones. For who in the skies above can compare with the LORD? Who is like the LORD among the heavenly beings? In the council of the holy ones God is greatly feared; he is more awesome than all who surround him. O LORD God Almighty, who is like you? You are mighty, O LORD, and your faithfulness surrounds you. Psalm 89:5-8

New Life Church at the Old Time Fair

We had a slow night at the West Linn Old Time Fair tonight. Our booth is on the North side of the main road by the softball diamonds. Water games were a big hit. We carried ice cold lemonade around the fair in the beverage backpack and made a lot of friends.
Tomorrow we have another full day of service. Then Sunday we have the worship service in the park at 10:00 in the morning at the pavilion.

Classic Articles and Resources of the Historic Christian Faith

I had lunch with a local West Linn resident, John Hendryx, today who runs one of the best Christian websites that I have ever found. It's called Monergism.com: Classic Articles and Resources of the Historic Christian Faith. We had a great time talking theology and internet design. Stop by and visit his site. You will find a life-time of good reading there. The audio section is one of the best collections of sermons around, too.

Service at the Fair....Shade will be available!

It's forecast to be HOT this weekend! But don't fear - there is SHADE at Willamette park. These pictures were taken at 11:15 AM on Wednesday, about the time we will be finishing up the service on Sunday. Outdoor services are great opportunities to invite your friends and neighbors, plan to this weekend and share your TREASURE with West Linn.
For who in the skies can be compared to the LORD? Who among the heavenly beings is like the LORD, a God greatly to be feared in the council of the holy ones, and awesome above all who are around him? O LORD God of hosts, who is mighty as you are, O LORD, with your faithfulness all around you?
(Psalms 89:6-8 ESV)

Photo Directory is on the way

New Life Church is putting a photo directory together this summer. Portraits will be taken Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday next week, July 24-26. If you have not signed up for an appointment please contact the church office. Last minute sign-ups will be available at our service at the fair. We want this to be the most useful it can be to everyone, so we need good participation. If you won't be in town. . . that's okay. We can get you connected with another location and they can take your portraits when you are available, but please let us know. Thank you for your cooperation.

New Life Church Young Adults/College Group

New Life Church has begun a Young Adults and College Group. If you, or anyone you know, fit that category you are invited. The next meeting will be Wednesday Night at 7:00 at the Reavely's house. We'll have snacks, games, and a Q&A with Pastor Scott. Bring your Bible and a friend.

BBQ with the Elders

New Life Church enjoyed the beautiful weather yesterday. We spent the late afternoon and evening at Hammerle Park. The elders brought BBQs, everyone else brought assorted food. Kids played on the swings. Many just sat and visited. It was a great time to encourage one another and put into practice the lessons from the morning about using our tongues positively. Thank the Lord, the evening could not have been nicer.

Prayer for Today

The Servant in Battle

O LORD, I bless thee that the issue of the battle between thyself and Satan
has never been uncertain,
and will end in victory.
Calvary broke the dragon's head,
and I contend with a vanquished foe,
who with all his subtlety and strength
has already been overcome.
When I feel the serpent at my heel
may I remember him whose heel was bruised,
but who, when bruised, broke the devil's head.

My soul with inward joy extols the mighty conqueror.

Heal me of any wounds received in the great conflict;
if I have gathered defilement,
if my faith has suffered damage,
if my hope is less than bright,
if my love is not fervent,
if some creature-comfort occupies my heart,
if my soul sinks under pressure of the fight.
O thou whose every promise is balm, every touch is life,
draw near to thy weary warrior,
refresh me, that I may rise again to wage the strife,
and never tire until my enemy is trodden down.
Give me such fellowship with thee that I may defy Satan,
unbelief, the flesh, the world,
with delight that comes not from a creature,
and which a creature cannot mar.
Give me a draught of the eternal fountain
that lieth in thy immutable, everlasting love and decree.
Then shall my hand never weaken, my feet never stumble,
my sword never rest, my shield never rust,
my helmet never shatter, my breastplate never fall,
as my strength rests in the power of thy might.
-- Valley of Vision, p.181.

Can you help the Strahms?

Can you help the Strahms? They lead Equippers’ Network International which is a nonprofit leadership training and development organization that sends qualified instructors to train deserving pastoral students in remote areas of the former Soviet Union. Their purpose is to provide these students with intensive training and ministry materials to prepare them to serve as church planters, pastors and missionaries.

Rich and Cheri Strahm are in the US until they raise their monthly support. They are 16% under-funded and need a minimum of $8,000.00 before they can return to Ukraine in September - $4,000 to cover monthly salary shortage through December and $4,000 to cover housing in Kiev and our administrative cost through December.

To help, send money to:
Dr. Rich Strahm,ENI Executive Director
P.O. Box 210698
Columbia, SC, 29221-0698

Or place it in the offering and mark ‘Strahm’ on the envelope.

Brian Janssen CD is available

You can get your Brian Janssen CD "He is Lord of All" at New Life Church on Sunday. Or you can email Hank Petrich to order one. You can read a little more about the project at Blue Thread Music.

The songs are ones we have sung for years at New Life Church that Brian wrote for a sermon series I preached years ago called Things That Matter Most. His idea was to use music to teach the central doctrines of Christianity. Get your own CD and decide if he was successful!

New Life Church Softball Team

The New Life Church softball team was successful again this year. Year after year they are at the top of their league.

It has been a good opportunity for men who are in the church and who are not in church to spend time together. Notice Pastor Bill as official team chaplain.

Parent Dedication Last Sunday

Last Sunday we had a Parent/Child Dedication. As always it was a delight for those who were witnesses. Four couples and five children were involved. From left to right: Tim & Jennifer Austen with Megan and Andrew; Chuck & Erica Searl with Jonathan; Matt & Kelly Zook with Janie; and Derrick & Tanya Elkins with Samantha.

Please continue to pray for and support these families as they raise their children to follow Christ.

New Life Church Gets In Step With Cadence

Saturday New Life Church sent a team to serve Cadence Ministries at Ft. Lewis Washington. Our missionaries, Paul & Beryl Metko brokered this opportunity for us and then joined the team for the day. We worked on a hospitality house for the ministry there. Job number one was painting the house. They also cleaned up some of the landscaping. Hey, it looks good!

We are planning on returning so that we can help the ministry family, Ron and Susan Hand, focus on ministry to soldiers, not maintaining their building. This team, like so much other ministry recently at New Life Church, was funded by the $50 stewardship projects. Tim Smith used his $50 to help the team get up there and Aaron Anderson had already given his money to the Hand family.

The team from New Life Church included: Lee & Louise Bennett, Rick & Cindy Sollers, Alma Coston, Larry Latimer, Joe Cowan, Dave Sanders, and Tim Smith. Paul & Beryl, the Hands, and two soldiers are also in the team picture.

Dear Church Family,

I want to thank you for your prayers during my recent illness. Visits from Pastors Scott, Bill and Nathan were appreciated.

The beautiful flowers the Spidals brought to the hospital from the church were an added blessing.

Thanks again.

Katrina Team Report

The Katrina Team that recently returned from Pass Christian, Mississippi will report to the church Sunday, July 9th at 7:00p.m. at New Life Church Riverfalls. We will also enjoy a dessert potluck, so bring a favorite dessert to share.

Outdoor Services This Summer

Two Sundays this Summer our schedule will be different. On July 23rd, New Life Church will hold a service during the West Linn Old Time Fair at 10:00 at Willamette Park. Then, two weeks later, August 6th, we will return to Willamette Park (map) and enjoy our annual outdoor service and picnic. Put these dates on your calendar now and be thinking now about who you might bring with you.

Sunday in Pass Christian

Sunday was a great day for the team. Taylor led music on in the service, Matt & Amanda sang as part of the "worship team". Pastor Scott gave the message from James 1:19-27. Then we enjoyed The Great Meatless Barbecue -- vegetables or fruit only. Being Oregonians and all, we learned what real rain can be like. Being Oregonians and all we saw a real alligator! Then, finally, we finished the play structure and the work at the park. It was 10:00p.m. on Sunday night, but we finally made it to the beach. We enjoyed our final worship and debrief time in the dark on the beach. Thank you all for your prayers and support.

More Blessing

As it ended, Sports Camp turned out to be a great blessing both to the church and to us. Among the memories of the kids that we will enjoy will be four boys and one girl to whom we were able to give new bikes. They had spent extra time with us helping in the park. As far as we know they had not heard the gospel before we illustrated part of it with these gifts. Please keep praying for them.

The Hard Work

While the work on the Sports Camp was exhausting it was fun to be with the children and to have opportunity to play ourselves, just a little. The really hard work of the week was a rehab job on a park. We purchased play structure and tried to put it together. It was not as easy as the instructions said. It was not as straightforward as the model in the store. We trimmed weeds, painted everything and redid the existing play structure. One of the most gratifying things was that neighborhood children who had come to Sports Camp came to help us work on their own park. We were surprised and delighted when Holly Thomas showed up on Friday. It is Sunday afternoon now, rainy with stifling humidity and they are out finishing this park project.

Matt is making sure those girls stir that concrete!
