April is a Autism awareness month. Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and autism are both general terms for a group of complex disorders of brain development. These disorders are characterized, in varying degrees, by difficulties in social interaction, verbal and nonverbal communication and repetitive behaviors. ASD can be associated with intellectual disability, difficulties in motor coordination and attention and physical health issues such as sleep and gastrointestinal disturbances. Some persons with ASD excel in visual skills, music, math and art. There is no known single cause of autism, but increased awareness and funding can help families today.
Did you know that New Life Church is partnering with two organizations to help those with ASD?
- New Life Robinwood will be hosting Camp Yakety Yak this summer. Camp Yakety Yak is a summer camp that helps children develop social communication and emotional regulation skills.
- New Life Wilsonville shares facilities with Victory Academy. Victory Academy is a year round school which serves children with unique learning differences, focusing on students impacted by Autism Spectrum Disorders.
