USA Today ran this article about a newly discovered ancient text. I think one sentence is particularly telling about the significance of this find to modern belief:
"It's a good example of exactly why the church opposed such gospels," he says.The same scholar who made that point about the new find/ancient manuscript wouldn't point the finger at Judas for his betrayal of Christ because. . .
"What Jesus did — raising crowds and civic unrest — would have gotten him killed anywhere in the Roman Empire."This is an interesting find, especially right before Easter and right before the release of the DaVinci Code movie (the plot depends on "other gospels" allegedly suppressed by the church). It may be interesting but it is anything but threatening to orthodox Christian belief.
