To celebrate a new year together, a combined worship service is planned at the West Linn High School auditorium at 10 a.m. on Sunday, January 23rd. Worship services will not take place at either church location so that all can attend this combined service. Nursery and preschool classes will be provided at New Life Riverfalls.

Next Steps for Wilsonville Swap & Play
We are getting very close to launching our Swap & Play ministry in Wilsonville on January 29th! Thank you so much to all the volunteers who have donated swap items or spent time fixing up the space. It is looking great!
The next thing on our to-do list is to schedule some events for Swap & Play members to get to know each other while doing something fun together. There are several different ways to participate in hosting an event. You can commit to do something just one time or on an ongoing basis (weekly, monthly, etc). You can plan and host an event by yourself, as a family, as a life group, or with some friends. You are not responsible for babysitting the children who attend, just for offering a fun, safe experience! Examples of the types of events we are looking for are:
- Toddler music time (sing songs, play instruments)
- Tutoring
- Cooking class
- Sewing class
- Painting – pictures, ornaments, picture frame
- Clay projects – make figurines, bowls, etc.
- Make paper dolls/corn husk dolls
- Make your own book night
- Make sock puppets/put on a puppet show
- Talent show
- Make balloon animals or origami craft
- Cookie decorating or gingerbread houses
- Woodworking – build a simple project (e.g. bird house, picure frame, shelf)
- Science night – do some science experiments together
- Game night
- Movie night
- Recycled goods art night
- Family portrait day (are you good at taking picures?)
- Parents night out (this would require babysitting and thus being child safety-trained)
- Garage sale swap/recycling day (for the whole community)
- Card-making party
- Kite-making/flying day
- Kickball night
If you are able to commit to putting on an event or have questions about it, please email swapandplay@gmail.com, or call Theresa at (503) 984-4791 or Miranda at (541) 231-5098. To see the calendar of events and/or learn more about the Swap & Play ministry, please check out our website at: http://wilsonvilleswapandplay.wordpress.com/

Prayer Focus for the week of Jan. 9th
New Life Church has a prayer focus each week. Our prayer focus is broken down into three categories of ministry: 1. We pray for another local church that is proclaiming the gospel of Jesus Christ. 2. We pray for a Global Outreach Partner who is proclaiming the gospel of Jesus Christ around the world. 3. We pray for a ministry of New Life Church that is proclaiming the gospel of Jesus Christ locally.
Area Church: First Baptist Church – Gladstone, OR, Pastor Brian Early
- Pray for unity as First Baptist Church is continuing to present Project Nehemiah, a building enhancement project that they will vote on in February.
- Pray that many will join their “Hear the Word” Bible reading program. The elders provide an insight to a passage of Scripture each day via e-mail as they read through the New Testament and Psalms.
- Pray for the five person short term mission team which leaves next Thursday for China. Pray for the doors of the Gospel to be open to them.
- Pray for wisdom in what to do and opportunities for spiritual conversations with students during the upcoming school breaks.
- Pray for the students to see that real, full, abundant life is found in Jesus alone and is worth sacrificing for.
- Praise God that another young single woman is moving out to join Josiah Venture Slovenia at the end of this month and will be Stephanie's roommate.
- Pray for unity among the leadership.
- Pray that those who come for dinner and worship would also engage in the small group ministry that is so beneficial for healing in recovery.
- Pray that those who attend Celebrate Recovery would also join local churches, whether New Life or another Christ-centered church.

Financial Peace
The beginning of the year is a great time to think about what you want to change in your life. For many, improving finances would be a good change. New Life Church will be offering two Financial Peace University classes to help equip you to make good financial decisions. The class begins this Sunday and will be taught by Mark Hanson at the Riverfalls campus, Sunday mornings from 10:30-12:00 (*note: This is 15 minutes before the second service begins). In February, Phil Reis will be leading an evening class of Financial Peace University at the Robinwood campus (more details will be posted soon). The Financial Peace University material will be supplemented with other materials to help keep finances in proper perspective with our relationship to God.
For more information about Financial Peace click here. For more information about the classes please contact the class facilitator or the church office.

Swap & Play Work Day Saturday Dec. 18th
In starting a campus of New Life Church in Wilsonville we want to be a church that is a blessing to the community. Toward that end, Wilsonville Swap & Play is a kid-friendly ministry that provides a “home away from home,” where families can find a supportive community and resources to provide for the physical needs of their children. The space will be opened up daily to local families as a place to let their children play indoors and out of the house. One of the rooms will be set up for families to swap lightly used clothes, toys, and baby gear for items that they need.
The Swap & Play ministry is beginning to take shape and this Saturday (Dec. 18th), from 9:00-Noon, we are going to finish the space preparations. Our primary objectives are to paint trim and clean up, however, if you would prefer to work outside there are bushes that need to be trimmed and sidewalks that need to be blown off too. Please come and work with us to make these rooms beautiful. Contact Pastor Travis for more information or just show up at 9:00 a.m. in Wilsonville ready to work!

Annual Budget and Elections Meeting
Sunday, November 21, 2010 we held our annual budget and elections meeting at New Life Church Robinwood. Anna Alcutt, Mike & Sherri Hellweg, John & Sylvia Pigott, Lauren Reavely, Phil & Marcia Reis, Donna Silva, Caitlyn Stone, and Jim & Cathy Tuttle were introduced as new members.
The church approved the budget and ratified Scott Haugen and Lee Bennett as elder for the next term.
And we approved changes to our bylaws. You can get a copy of the bylaws by asking the church office. Among the changes were:
- An upgrade to the church covenant.
- Dropping the word "pre-millenial" from our doctrinal statement.
- Requiring only one business meeting per year.
- Wording that presses us to search for a senior pastor from inside New Life Church before we go outside, reflecting our value of leadership development.

Thank you for helping with Thanksgiving Baskets
Another great year was just completed. Thanks so much to everyone who made phone calls, printed maps, donated food, packed food, and delivered boxes. There were 29 boxes filled this year. The high school Ignite team was a wonderful help in moving the food from the storage cupboard onto the tables where it was packed. God is blessed and so is everyone involved in this outreach ministry!

On Wednesday, November 17th, Coffee Cart workers Kazumi Yamaura, Joan Meyers, and Jan Titus served a record 121 West Linn High School students and staff members! The previous record was 90.

High School "Pumpkorn" event a success!
High school students gathered at the church at 2:30 on Saturday, October 23rd and started the event by traveling to Albeke Farms in Oregon City to grab some pumpkins for the team carving competition. The students split into five teams and each team had to decide upon a theme they were going to carry through into their pumpkin carving. The themes chosen were "Wild, Wild West", "Germany", "Random Household Objects", "Totem Pole", and "Individuality". Each group's pumpkins were judged and when the scores were tallied "Totem Pole" won with "Wild, wild west" coming in a close second.
After the carving was complete everyone sat down to a yummy meal of corn chowder, salad, toasted-pumpkin seeds, and rolls. Pumpkin pie and pumpkin bars were the desert. During the meal Tanya Elkins shared her testimony. It was powerful and she captured everyone's attention for the ten minutes that she spoke about the change that a relationship with Jesus Christ has made in her life following some tumultuous teen years. She invited everyone to stop striving after what the world says is the path to happiness, and into the unceasing and unchanging hope offered by a relationship with Him.
When dinner was over and cleanup was complete we headed out for the corn maze. There was a lot of screaming, a lot of mud, and when it was all over there were a lot of smiles! Everyone returned from the maze soaked to the skin and freezing cold, but after the heat kicked in the talk in the vans on the way home was about doing it all again next year.
The evening ended with thirty-seven students attending and seventeen of them were visitors! Please pray that the Lord would lead them to a relationship with Him and that He would continue to offer our ministry an opportunity to speak His truth into the lives of area high school students.

"Pop" Night at Awana
Last week at Awana the clubbers enjoyed a special theme night called "Pop Night". All of the kids brought their pop, grandpop, or some other adult male to hang out with them for the night. The night started with both Pops and clubbers learning and reciting verses from God's word. The Pops learned Deut. 6:4-5 and recited it to their kids.
Next we had a special time of singing and hearing a famous pop in our church share from the Bible (Pastor Scott). It was so cute to see all of the kids sitting in their Pop's lap and listening to what God had to say to them.
After hearing lesson from God's word, we had a time of games. A few of the Pops got really dizzy as the spun around on bats and tried to run around the Awana Circle. The favorite game of the night was American Eagle where kids ran across the circle with their Pops trying to avo
id being tagged.
Finally, what "Pop Night" would be complete without having a snack of soda-pop, popcorn, and lollipops. A great time was had by all. "Pop Night" is just one of many fun theme nights that the faithful Awana leaders are putting on for the kids this year. It's not too late to join Awana either. If you child is 3 years old through 5th grade, we would love to have them come and learn God's word with us. Contact Sara Pylate at thepreacherswifeis@gmail.com for more information.

Area Church: Rolling Hills Community Church – Tualatin, OR. Pastor Bill Towne
Global Outreach Partner: Bruce Tissell – World Venture, Brazil
- Praise God for the safe trip to and for the discussion that we had in São Paulo with the missionaries from the south of Brazil. These discussions lead us to think through what needs to be discussed in the future.
- Praise God also for the time of relaxation that He gave me during this time. Even though I had a cold I was able to relax and sleep well.
- Please pray for me as I now bring the discussion to the missionaries in the northern part of Brazil. Pray that I would be able to faithfully explain what was discussed in the meeting in the south and that we would be able to start thinking together to decide how we can best serve and glorify God in our work here in Brazil.
- Please pray that God would provide a place for me to stay for my time in the States in early December.
NLC Ministry: GriefShare
- Praise God for those who are coming and finding hope and encouragement after the death of a loved one.
- Pray that Jesus' death and resurrection would provide hope and change in those who come to GriefShare.

Family Discipleship Class at Riverfalls
Discipleship occurs best in community. That’s true particularly with Family Discipleship, where we learn with one another how to follow Christ in the midst of our most important relationships—our family!
Family can be the most rewarding relationship, but also the most difficult. Indeed, we live in a time when the idea of family seems in decline and when marriages are in trouble.
As we learn together to how to live in the midst of “the drama of sin and grace” with our spouses and children, we will discover the power of the gospel to transform our families, and ourselves. We’ll learn how to build a godly family.
So join us Sunday mornings at 10:45 in the Chapel beginning October 17th for the Family Discipleship community, where we will explore applying the gospel to our families. We’ll begin with the six-session video, Sacred Marriage, where we’ll learn how God designed marriage to make us holy. Class is led by Michael Lewis.

10/10/10 -- A Great Sunday at New Life Church
I have been a pastor at our church, as of last week, for 22 years! In that time, I can probably count on one hand the number of Sundays that I would say were really great, days where I wouldn't really change anything. God has done such a good work in our church, but He has done it through a series of gradual changes and good, but not spectacular Sundays.
Last Sunday, however, was one of those days that I would say was really great. For starters, the Robinwood congregation had their highest non-Easter attendance of the year and started a new class called Gospel Armor with 22 adults attending. The Riverfalls congregation enjoyed four baptisms (Audrey Lazar, Rachel Polley, David Hellweg, and Sam Cochran). Three fathers baptized their children. The service was full, but not as full as it would have been had we not sent a team to go do the service at Tanner Springs. Then we shared dinner together and the child safety training was packed. Eighty people were reminded of the importance of keeping kids safe. Add to that the 20 or so from a previous training and there are already 100 volunteers trained and ready to serve! That would have been good enough, but then 50 or so young people hit the I-205 off-ramps in Clackamas County to raise money for homeless people on World Homeless Day. Then, ReGeneration had a large crowd who were challenged to choose the path of wisdom from Psalm 1:1-6. If that weren't enough, one young man came up to me then and told me how he'd submitted his life to Christ after we talked last week!
I fell into bed exhausted, but happy for God's work at New Life Church. And . . . I hope it encourages you, too.

Wilsonville Garage Sale Success!
After two great days we are praising God for the results in Wilsonville! We sold most of our inventory and met many people from the community. It was wonderful to see people with smiling faces walk out with great deals. After expenses, the garage sale made $3000! The profits will benefit families in Wilsonville and neighboring communities by helping to fund a new Swap & Play ministry. Swap & Play will provide a place for families to network with one another, trade clothing and other items with each other, and let their children play. Thank you all for your help and prayers to make this event an overwhelming success!

Prayer Focus for the week of Sept. 26th
Pray for the staff who recently received word from the Metkos that they will be stepping down from their regional director role at the end of this year.
Pray that, as the Metkos begin their last visits to each ministry location, the staff would focus on the future.
Pray for wisdom for the mission leadership as they consider who to recommend for the Metkos role.
Pray for God's leading as they discuss another role (one of mentoring new and returning staff) with mission leadership.
Please pray that the people of New Life Church will actively seek Christian community.
Pray that we will start 3 more Life Groups by the end of the year.
Pray that the Life Groups will remain centered on the Gospel as each member speaks the truth in love to the others.
Pray that each Life Group would identify its particular mission and see the conversion of at least one unbeliever this year.
