"Pastor Scott. You need to come. The Bible Study downstairs is full to over-flowing. They're rehearsing a song. And, they want to be on the blog!"
Of course, the last phrase got to me. I rushed downstairs and snapped this picture. To my everlasting enjoyment they were singing "Jesus Loves Me" to perform at the next SAM Luncheon. As I was taking the picture I felt like a proud dad at a school program!
Regularly over twenty seniors gather every Tuesday morning at 10:30 for Bible Study in the "map room" at the Riverfalls Campus. There are people there from all three campuses. They have the best time as George Nelson leads them to study God's word. Hardly a week goes by when someone doesn't tell me what a good job George is doing.
Some of you may just want to admit your age and come to the next potluck to hear the special music...I'll be there!

Senior Bible Study takes Summer Break
Tuesday mornings 10:00 AM September through June, fifteen to eighteen people meet for Bible study and prayer. George Nelson leads the sessions. Recently the Book of Revelation was completed; Isaiah will be continued in the Fall. Lively discussion and fellowship (including coffee and treats) complete the agenda.
Seniors, remember in September to drop in and check this out.
Here is a letter from one of the participants to the leaders:
Dear George & Betty,
Thank you for your faithfulness in preparation and teaching our Tuesday Morning Senior Bible Study. Each week finds you giving yourselves away for Him and we are beneficiaries of your service.
George, you unselfishly share from the reservoir of God’s truth you’ve acquired through a lifetime of serving Him. It takes a certain skill, and inspiration of the Holy Spirit, to teach (impart knowledge) with humility and authority. You do this gently and effectively each week, breathing life into difficult passages of Scripture, adding information from your own research.
Betty, the heart of your husband trusts safely in you (Proverbs 31). Your quiet, careful attentive presence beside him contributes, perhaps more than you know, to his confidence. Your basket of snack materials and treats makes our fellowship time complete. God shaped you as a pastor’s daughter to be a pastor’s wife and we thank Him for you.
We praise God for the two of you and ask His continued blessing and joy on your life.
With love,
Your students

What's the Opposite of a Children's Book?
This is a post about SAM and Clifford but not "Sam, I Am" from Green Eggs and Ham or Clifford, the Big Red Dog. It is about the Senior Adult Ministry (SAM) at New Life Church and Pat Clifford, (not big, not red and certainly not a dog).
One of my chief concerns over the past few months has revolved around what to do with the Senior Adult ministry without Bob Spidal. He had served so ably and lovingly for so long, I wasn't sure how we could replace him. I am thankful that, though, with man it is impossible, with God nothing is impossible.
From the time the Cliffords moved from California about 4 years ago, God had been building within Pat a desire to serve Seniors. He didn't know what that looked like or how it would take shape, but God did. Yesterday, he began as the new Senior Adult Director at New Life Church. He is a wise man with a subtle and hysterical sense of humor. I have every confidence that God will use him to be a great encouragement to the seniors. . . and to me! And this chapter will not be a children's book, but another story of God's faithfulness to his church.

S.A.M. Luncheon Tomorrow, February 13th
The Senior Adult Ministries will be resuming their monthly potluck luncheons tomorrow, February 13th. Please bring a dish to share and join us for a great meal, old-time sing, and a brief program. This is such a fun event, and a great opportunity for fellowship and encouragement. Please remind your favorite seniors NOT to miss it!

Valentine's Day at the SAM Luncheon
The musicians I love the most did the program at the SAM luncheon yesterday. They played some old favorites for everyone to sing along. They played their 'new' instruments. It turned out to be one of the largest SAM luncheons in memory. And, thankfully, there was plenty of delicious food.
